#AnnualReport - Projects, partners, priorities and procurements – In 2023 EDA reinforced its contribution to European defence. In the Agency’s annual report for 2023, we provide an overview of EDA’s milestones reached and achievements over the year. ⛺️ #AMVillage2024 is well underway this week! The second edition of the Additive Manufacturing Village set up home in Tournai, Belgium, bringing together over 400 experts from #European armed forces, industry, and academia. The five-day capability workshop was opened by Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defence of Belgium, who highlighted the groundbreaking nature of #3Dprinting and emphasised its potential to reduce the ecological footprint of military operations, paving the way for a greener #EUdefence. The AM Village 2024 focuses on the application of #AdditiveManufacturing, reviewing industrial capabilities by testing and demonstrating deployable technology and manufacturing methods for different #military use cases. It offers industry the opportunity to identify and provide tailored industrial solutions in Additive Manufacturing. The event is organised by EDA in cooperation with Multinational Logistic Coordination Center (MLCC) and under the umbrella of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024. After several internships in political and press affairs, he learnt the very foundation of #communication in his first professional role at the United Nations University. 📰 As part of EDA’s Media and Communication Team, Eric monitors the #press on relevant defence topics, supports the development and management of social media campaigns, and contributes to the production of EDA flagship publications and execution of high-level events. 💪 While grasping the essence of a broad spectrum of #defence projects and initiatives may seem difficult at first, the traineeship’s 1-year timeline provides him with multiple opportunities to grow and take on more responsibilities. She holds a Master’s degree in International and European Law and began her professional career as a trainee at the Portuguese Armed Forces General Staff, working on cyber defence, military operations, and international law. 🛰️ As an EDA trainee, Bárbara supports the Operations, Training, and Exercises Unit. She significantly contributes to the #EU SATCOM Market and GOVSATCOM projects, with great impact on the development and implementation of missions under the EU Common Security and Defence Policy (#CSDP). 🗨️ In her role, Bárbara enhances strategic communications capabilities and supports the operational readiness of EU armed forces. 📢 Call for abstracts on defence test and evaluation open Organised by EDA and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, the fourth Test and Evaluation Community Days conference in Linköping, Sweden, brings together Member States' experts from government, industry and academia, discussing ‘Defence Test and Evaluation Challenges in Europe’. In the context of the conference, a call for presentations and posters is open until 6 September 2024, accepting submissions on the following topics: 🔸 Wartime experiences; 🔸 Test and evaluation resources; 🔸 Autonomous systems; 🔸 Artificial intelligence; 🔸 Data analytics; 🔸 T&E workforce, engaging the next generation; 🔸 Test and evaluation as an important area to support the certification of military products. The event is open to government, industry, and research/academia experts from EDA Member States. Third countries with an Administrative Arrangement (AA) which are involved in EDA defence test and evaluation activities can also participate in the event. EDA #traineeship | Meet the trainees 👥 Gábor A. Papp, a Hungarian with a Master's degree in International Relations from Vienna, acquired first professional experience through various roles. Among others, he worked as a journalist, facilitated #defence procurement opportunities in the USA, and conducted research as a visiting scholar in Taiwan. At EDA, Gabor serves as the Sustainability and Defence Trainee, contributing to the Industry Strategy and EU Policies Unit. In his role, he focuses on multifaceted areas of resilience and analyses #EU policies that have a negative impact on the #European defence industry and military readiness. To Gabor, EDA’s traineeship programme provides an invaluable opportunity to gain practical experience in #EUdefence and security, building a strong basis for his future career. EDA #AnnualReport 2023 | From defence planning to managing cooperative projects 🤝 In 2023, EDA supported Member States’ capability planning through its own prioritisation framework, leading to 22 EU Capability Development Priorities. They serve as the key reference point for any EU initiative contributing to prepare, develop and acquire Member States' defence capabilities. #ToBeReady EDA also launched the third cycle of its Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (#CARD), established the joint procurement of #155mm ammunition through EDA in support of #Ukraine, and helped implement four #PESCO projects. The Agency supported an overall portfolio of 94 cooperative projects and programmes, with a total value of €664 million. From space to maritime surveillance or the European strategic tanker capability (#MMF), EDA further strengthened its role as the hub for #EUdefence cooperation. #CFSEDSS | Contributing to the EU’s Green Deal to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 EDA’s Consultation Forum for Sustainable Energy in the Defence and Security Sector (CF SEDSS) has marked the end of its third phase with a dissemination conference and exposition, running from 2019 to 2024. In total, seven plenary conferences were organised during Phase III. The Forum's contributions are acknowledged in high-level EU documents such as the Progress Report of the EU Climate Change and Defence Roadmap, the Action Plan on Military Mobility and the EU Joint Communication on Climate Change. CF SEDSS is Europe’s largest defence energy community, reinforcing the defence sector's involvement in the energy transition. It will now move to Phase IV, running until 2028.
