EDA Seminars on EU Defence Procurement

On 1 and 6 December the Agency hosted seminars on EU defence procurement for nearly 100 defence acquisition experts from EU governments and industry.

Following the transposition of the Defence Procurement Directive, both seminars addressed the new EU regulatory environment in the context of the increasing need for improved cost-effectiveness and efficiency of the European defence market in a time of fiscal austerity.

The participants discussed the legal framework for defence procurement in Europe, exchanged the first lessons learnt from the transposition process and considered the future of the intergovernmental initiatives that complement the regulatory measures.

The speakers included representatives of the European Commission, EDA member States’ defence procurement authorities, Hogan Lovells, AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe and National Defence Industry Associations.

The seminars will be followed by a series of workshops that will focus on concrete aspects of the defence procurement, such as subcontracting, security of supply and security of information.
