SES/SESAR Military implementation forum held at EDA

The European Defence Agency hosted a second meeting of the Single European Sky SES/SESAR Military implementation forum in Brussels on 12 December, bringing together the whole defence community (NATO, EU Military Staff, Military Air Traffic Management Board, EU Member States and NATO Allies) and the civilian actors (European Commission's Directorate-General MOVE, SESAR Joint Undertaking, Eurocontrol) under the Chairmanship of the Major General Carlo Magrassi.

Following the High Level Conference on Single European Sky organized in Warsaw on 28 November (see the declaration of this conference), this forum contributed to structure the views of the defence community in the implementation of SESAR.

SESAR JU Executive Director Patrick Ky underlined the need of the military involvement, recalling that SESAR JU account for approximatively 80 military people for the time being. EDA Chief Executive Claude-France Arnould called for a greater convergence of the military views, building on the respective competencies of the different organizations and on the involvement of the Member States. She recalled the interface role of EDA, bridging the military community with the European Commission.

EDA has been tasked by the Ministers of defence in December 2010 to identify financial and operational risks for the defence community, in close consultation with relevant actors.
