Following the endorsement of the revised EU Capability Development Priorities (CDP) by the European Defence Agency (EDA) Steering Board in 2023, dedicated Priority Implementation Roadmaps (PIRs) have been elaborated and agreed among Member States, laying down a list of actionable and concrete activities, at different time horizons, to be carried out to foster the fulfilment of the Priorities’ objectives. With these premises, EDA is hosting dedicated Maritime Workshops, open to European industry, from 31 March to 3 April 2025 (the dates include Industry sessions).
This Call for Papers will be used to prepare three industry workshops at EDA premises in Brussels, Belgium, in hybrid format. The main Objectives of the industry workshops are as follows:
- To obtain the relevant industrial perspective on specific topics and activities laid down in the PIRs related to the maritime CDP Priorities,
- To exchange views on the role and support of the EDTIB in the Priorities’ implementation for the maritime domain.
Through this Call for Papers, industry representatives are invited to provide a written submission to EDA with answers to one of the prompts posed below:
- A dedicated submission for each topic by the same Company is allowed.
- The submissions should not exceed 500 words and be communicable in a 30-minute slot.
- All submissions are requested by NLT 07 March 2025, 12:00 Brussels time.
Based on the evaluation criteria listed below, EDA will invite the selected companies to provide a presentation, and where practicable a demonstration (TBC), during the workshops, followed by discussion sessions.
THE EDA MARITIME WORKSHOPS
Following the positive feedback received from MS and Industry on the 2024 edition, the 2025 Maritime Workshops will bring together strategic and expert planners from the Maritime Communities: members of the newly established Capability Experts Groups, MARSUR PAB and MMG, ad hoc working groups in the maritime domain, participants, and observers of all maritime PESCO projects, as well as representatives of the defence industry. The aim is to create a stimulating environment for further cooperation and to gather stakeholder perspectives on dedicated topics. The focus of each workshop will reflect the three CDP maritime domain across the following timeframe:
31 March PM: Maritime Domain Awareness
Prompt 1 - Integration of available AI driven solutions for maritime surveillance.
01 April AM: Maritime Domain Awareness
Prompt 2 - Integration of available solution to foster the possible development of MARSUR network up to EU Secret level.
02 April AM: Naval Combat and Maritime Interdiction
Prompt 1 - for the European Combat Vessel, a future common European combat ship project, provide your perspective on hull and platform designs that can fit the necessary systems, sensors, and effectors to successfully operate in the 2040s horizon. Proposals may address elements such as the standardization of platforms, new manufacturing materials, ergonomics, enhanced stability, improved stealthiness, efficient use of space, maximized energy consumption, and/or concealment in the placement of systems.
Prompt 2 - Introduce an innovative vision on platform types, hull designs, and/or formations, operational beyond 2050, spotting key characteristics that will shape naval warfare in the future.
03 April AM: Underwater and Seabed Warfare
Prompt 1 - Launching and Recovery Systems/Equipment for Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (ROVs/AUVs) and Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs): Solutions for a Common Class Multi-Role Ship for Underwater Operations (SUO).
03 April PM: Underwater and Seabed Warfare
Prompt 2 - Underwater Communication Systems: Technologies to support deep-sea operations at depths that can reach up to 6000 meters.
