The Military Airworthiness Authorities Forum (MAWA) oversees the development and maintenance of European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMARs). The MAWA forum also promotes opportunities for harmonisation of military airworthiness in Europe. In this context the biennial EDA Military Airworthiness Conference brings together worldwide key stakeholders from national authorities, industry, European agencies and international organisations to exchange views, identify best practices and debate lessons learned in their activities to date.
We are delighted that the Dutch Military Aviation Authority will host the EDA Military Airworthiness Conference 2025 in The Hague, Netherlands on 8-9 October 2025.
The motto of this year's conference is Mission first, Safety always and EMARS forever.
The focus of the conference will be on Airworthiness in Crisis. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine showed that the commitment of air assets in a crisis or war zone, up to a large-scale conflict in coalition with the participation in high intensity battles, makes it very challenging to reconcile compliance with all the usual “peacetime” national rules for maintaining aircraft airworthiness. However, the system of harmonised European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMARs) should remain most valuable, even in times of crisis. As declaring a state of crisis for Airworthiness (AW) is a national sovereign decision, the goal is to optimize the continued availability and sustainability of military aircraft support systems by offering various options to ensure continuity in a systematic approach. This involves detailing how to temporarily derogate from EMARs, providing increased flexibility in crisis situations. Additionally, the need for guidance was identified as to how to revert to full EMAR compliance environment once the crisis has passed.
After focusing on Airworthiness in Crisis, the conference will address the matters of EMAR implementation in the broadest sense and the identification of future challenges. The programme will include ample time for discussion and interaction with the audience. As in previous years, there will be opportunities for networking during the breaks and during an informal evening event.
Detailed information on the draft conference programme, venue and organisation, as well as a link to the registration page, will be published in due time.
We look forward to seeing you at the Military Airworthiness Conference 2025.
