On 6 March, European Union leaders took decisive steps to strengthen Europe's sovereignty and security, especially in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Leaders highlighted the need for a strong and coordinated approach to bolster European defence and protect EU citizens.
Among many other measures, EU leaders agreed to use EDA’s work on capability development. EU leaders also asked EDA to be ready to support procurement (a single buyer to drive down the cost of armaments) in support of the European defence industry.
EDA’s Head of Agency Kaja Kallas - EU High Representative - attended the summit.
