Introduction
The CapTech Cyber is the European hub for research, technology, and innovation in cyber defence. It brings together experts from EU Member States, industry, and academia to anticipate emerging threats, explore cutting-edge solutions, and develop capabilities that strengthen the resilience of Europe’s armed forces in the digital domain.
CapTech Cyber’s mission is to monitor emerging technologies, conduct foresight analyses, identify capability gaps, and establish roadmaps and joint research projects that address priority capability needs. Its activities focus on maturing early-stage innovations into operational solutions that enhance cyber defence capabilities.
CapTech Cyber covers a broad range of innovative technologies, including:
- Situation awareness
- Cyber threat intelligence (CTI)
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) for cyber security
- Information security
- Threat detection and incident response
- Cryptography, predictive analytics modelling & simulation
- Software & systems security engineering
- Digital forensics
- Cloud technologies for cyber security
- Quantum computing
Technology Building Blocks
Technology Building Blocks (TBBs) are the specific technological focus areas that guide the CapTech’s activities and research priorities. CapTech Cyber is structured around eight TBBs:
- Cyber defence situational awareness: enhancing visibility and understanding of the cyber environment.
- Cognitive science with cyber implications: leveraging human factors, cognition and behaviour in cyber defence.
- Exploring convergence opportunities between Cyberoperations and Electronic Warfare
- Cross-cutting cyber defence for land, maritime, air, and space: ensuring resilience across all operational domains.
- Protection of military communications and information systems (CIS): securing CIS infrastructure against evolving threats.
- Quantum computing and cryptography with cyber implications: harnessing disruptive technologies for secure information processing.
- Autonomous cyber response: developing automated defence and recovery measures.
- Modelling and simulation for cyber defence: enabling realistic training, testing and predictive analysis.
Together, these technology building blocks provide a basis for advancing European cyber defence research and technology.
Link to EDA’s capability domains
CapTech Cyber supports capability domains such as Full Spectrum Cyber Defence Operations and Cyber Warfare Advantage and Readiness.
By aligning with these domains, CapTech Cyber translates its research outcomes into operational capabilities that enhance resilience, interoperability and security across EU defence.
Join the Community
CapTech Cyber meets two to three times per year. All information is shared via EDA’s online collaborative workspace. In addition to CapTech meetings, EDA organises workshops dedicated to specific topics to investigate areas and promote cooperation.
You can submit a membership request to the CapTech moderator. The application requires the approval by the respective CapTech National Coordinator (CNC). The approval of the CNC is necessary for becoming a Governmental Expert (CGE) or non-Governmental Expert (CnGE), and for your participation in a CapTech event.
