Green Defence at EDA

Green Defence refers to the integration of environmentally sustainable practices into military operations and defence strategies. It encompasses efforts to reduce the environmental impact of defence activities, including energy consumption, waste production and use of critical raw materials and other resources. This concept aims to mitigate the ecological footprint of armed forces and reduce European dependencies while maintaining operational effectiveness. By incorporating green principles, the defence sector not only contributes to environmental conservation but also enhances its resilience, reduce costs, and foster innovation in military capabilities.

The IF CEED activities are conducted in synergy with existing EDA initiatives- notably the Consultation Forum Sustainable Energy (europa.eu), the Energy and Environment CapTech (EnE CT), the Security of Supply workstrand, the Materials and Structures CapTech and the REACH Task Force.
